A colleague's brother lives and works in Manhattan and just reported to him, via email that he was just sitting next to Karen Hughes (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Hughes) "who is talking on her phone, advising Bush's people how and when to congratulate Obama!"  Fingers are crossed.

I missed the actual broadcast last night but just watched it on Youtube.  Barack is amazing.  I listen to him speak and I just get more and more excited at the prospect of his being our next President.  I really hope that it happens.  If it doesn't - it will be a long, sad drive home to Atlanta from Florida.   I can just feel the passion around this election - more then any election I've witnessed before.   Here's a great link featuring kids from the Ron Clark Academy www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxlwYPOHNdc.  When you click on "more info" to the right, you can see the lyrics.  Enjoy!

6 More Days

Election Day is nearing quickly and at this point, Obama is up 5.9 in the polls although, we never really know what that means.  Early voting has been insane in Georgia so - regardless of outcome, at least people are casting their votes.  A friend sent me this great link www.vajoe.com/candidate_calculator.html.  I sent this along to my cousin who didn't really understand the difference between the candidates and their views.  And, I don't blame him.  I have never really been what I would consider to be a "political" person.  I grew up surrounded by a very politically charged family and can remember, as a young child, tuning out at every holiday meal because they were speaking this political language that I didn't understand.  And I have to say, while I have a point of view on many things, in the past, when it came to politics, even as an adult I would find myself tuning out.

All of that has changed, of course.  After the last 8 years, I've gotten more involved.  I've stopped tuning out.  I am heading to Florida and really hope that we can make a difference and that, on Wednesday when I am heading back home to Atlanta, I'll have a big smile on my face knowing that change is on the way.

The Prep

So, Saturday I will make the schlep to Florida to volunteer for the Obama campaign.  I'm not quite sure exactly what I'll be doing but I imagine it will involve canvassing and making a bunch of phone calls to encourage people to get out there and vote.  Courtney got me a great Obama t-shirt for my birthday and I ordered one online from theressomethingaboutbarry.com.  I'm really excited about helping out and hope that it will make a difference.  It will be nice to spend some time with my family while I am doing it.  Going to crash with Dennis and Christopher at the bachelor pad in St. Pete.  Good times.
